Vaccinations and parasite treatments: the basics so you don't get lost

Which vaccinations are compulsory depends on where you live. How vaccinations work, internal and external parasites, and how not to forget the dates.

Vaccinations

Puppies and kittens get several doses in their first months, and then boosters throughout their lives. Which vaccinations are compulsory is decided by each autonomous community. Rabies is compulsory for dogs in many of them, and it is compulsory for travelling within the European Union. Your vet will tell you your animal's schedule.

Internal parasites

Worms and other intestinal parasites. They are treated with tablets or pastes. How often depends on age, lifestyle (whether it hunts, goes to the countryside or lives with children) and the area.

External parasites

Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, which in some areas carry serious diseases such as leishmaniasis or heartworm. Ask your vet what protection your animal needs depending on where you live and travel. At Petuki we do not sell parasite treatments: they are products your vet should recommend.

Do not forget the dates

Note down each vaccination and parasite treatment in its health record and in «My pets», where you can set dated reminders.
